  • Rigveda is the earliest text of Indo European languages.
  • It is written in Sanskrit but also includes many Munda and Dravidian words. Probably, these words may be percolated to Rigveda through the language of Harappans.
  • Rig Veda is a collection of prayers offered to Agni, Mitra, Varuna and other gods.
  • It consists of 10 Mandalas or books, of which books I to VII form the earliest parts. Books I & X seems to have been the latest additions.
  • Rig Veda has many things in common with Avesta, which is the oldest text in Iranian language.
